Decorating with Intentionality

It’s been three years since we moved into our historic cottage. Unfortunately years of neglect and flippers who cared not for history saved none of her charm minus one stone wall and hand hewn beams in the basement.
We have slowly began adding back some of that vintage charm in millwork, a vintage door in our downstairs bathroom and historic paint. This week we are adding beadboard to the kitchen and I know it’s going to add all the more to the nostalgic bygone era of this home.
As we have been moving from space to space and doubling back as new ideas and layers are created. I have been thinking a lot about focusing on decorating with intentionality.
I have found that whenever I move too fast through a space it’s easy to miss the details. Those details are the fairy dust, the icing that makes or breaks all of your decorating genius. When you’re ready for the details this is when you pause, take a deep breath and ask yourself “what do I want this space to say?” “What do I want this space to say about the lives that live here?” “How do I want those that enter my space to feel?” And lastly “What mood am I intentionally wanting to express?”
These questions and answers will drive your design. I promise that if you decorate with this outline you will create magic. Just remember this is your magic, don’t follow the fads, the trends, or what someone has to say. This is your space and you should love the space you’re in!
Want to know what I am I personally doing in my home at the moment?
Aside from the beadboard addition to the kitchen, I’m changing out the original wood knob hardware on an old server now turned living room media console with beautiful brass. It’s going to be beautiful! We just finished the stairs and are awaiting the arrival of a brass rail. It’s this intentional way of being and yes sometimes it’s slow and puts my patience to the test but the end result is going to be the 🧚 fairy dust!
Let me know what you think of these before and after.
